How Nerds Write Memoirs

Emma Fulenwider

What We're Talking About:

Some people are creative, naturally gifted writers. Good for them. What about the rest of them who want to write your stories too? In this session, they'll learn about a scientific memoir writing process that was developed by researchers at the University of Southern California.

Emma Fulenwider, The Lifestorian

The advice I would give our life storytelling audience is:

The first draft is private. The first draft is just for you to read. Don't worry about what other people will think, because they don't get to read it until you say it's ready. Your memoir will start out very messy - every creative pursuit has its initial “mess stage." Embrace the mess. Give yourself a safe, private space to develop your story and make mistakes. You can edit later. But you can't edit what you don't create.

Just for you:

A Legacy Letter is a bite-sized biography project that you can finish in a day. Anyone can write one, and everyone should!
